Meet the Coach

Kelvin Hasch will start his seventh year this fall as Greely High School's Industrial Technology teacher. Some of his classes include CAD Drawing, Woodworking, Video Production, Metals Technology, and Service Learning.

His love for volleyball began in high school, while playing for Santa Monica High in Santa Monica, California. While in college, Coach Hasch played intramurals (due to his course load) and continued to play as a young adult for local church leagues.

When he came to Greely in 1995, he asked Jack Hardy, the Athletics Director, about the possibility of coaching a volleyball team. With a school the size of Greely, Mr. Hardy just didn't have the time to help launch another team sport.

The years passed and Coach Hasch focused on developing his curriculum and expanding his program. Then in May of 2001, a Freshman in his homeroom asked why there wasn't a girls' volleyball team at Greely, because she really wanted to play. Unsure of the degree of serious commitment the student possessed, Hasch challenged her to find fifteen girls willing to play. The deal was made that if she could come up with fifteen names than Hasch would coach the team.

Well, September 2001 came and the student had made good - with twenty-four names of girls who wanted to play. (That's quite a lot when only six get to play at one time!) So Hasch kept his end of the deal and the first season of the GHS Girls' Volleyball Team leapt into full swing.

The team ended their 2001 season with a record of 9 to 3 and are all fired up to start their second season, which kicks off with a Home Tournament - August 24, 2002. The first Home Game is September 26th at 6pm against Biddeford. So come on out and support the team!
